A virus is on the loose and is wreaking havoc among the players present these days at the Caja Magica. After Iga Swiatek was forced to retire in the third set of her match against Ann Li on Saturday, Coco Gauff was also on the verge of throwing in the towel early

Gauff called for the presence of the Mutua Madrid Open doctor during her duel with Sorana Cirstea and which finally went in her favor, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1. She was seen suffering and vomiting in the changeover chair and had her blood pressure and oxygen measured

Fonseca reached the third round without playing

In the men’s draw, the virus took its toll on veteran Marin Cilic, who had to withdraw on Friday from playing against Joao Fonseca. The Brazilian will thus play tonight against Rafa Jodar without any previous experience on the courts of Madrid
