Chicago hotdogs on the house after Bears HC Ben Johnson goes shirtless following win vs. Eagles

The Chicago Bears have produced plenty of unlikely storylines during their surge up the NFC standings, but few were as delightfully odd as the moment that unfolded inside their locker room on Black Friday.

Moments after beating the Philadelphia Eagles, head coach Ben Johnson peeled off his shirt in front of his players, a spontaneous celebration that instantly triggered a citywide giveaway of free hot dogs.

It was all thanks to a month-old challenge from The Wieners Circle, Chicago’s famously irreverent hot dog stand, which had promised fans free food if Johnson ever went shirtless after a win.

At the time, the coach laughed off the possibility, calling the idea “a little disturbing,” before adding with a grin that he was “a man of the people.”

Johnson cashes in the challenge

The Bears’ 24-15 win over the Eagles was significant on its own. Chicago climbed to 9-3, extended its winning streak to five games, and delivered a convincing victory over the defending Super Bowl champions.

But for a fan base riding the emotional high of a resurgent season, Johnson‘s theatrics added a perfectly Chicago twist.

In a clip shared by the Bears, the first-year head coach wrapped up his postgame speech by leaning into the promise.

“I know you guys are hungry for more,” he told his team as cheers built behind him. “Let me tell you something, the city of Chicago is hungry, too. They’re hungry for some hot dogs!” With that, Johnson tore off his shirt and the locker room erupted.

Within minutes, The Wieners Circle confirmed it would honor the deal, announcing that beginning Tuesday at 11 a.m., customers could receive a free hot dog, no purchase necessary. The stand expects to hand out around 2,000.

The promotion is the second time this season the restaurant has rewarded Bears fans. Back in Week 3, it offered free hot dogs after quarterback Caleb Williams threw four touchdowns against the Cowboys.

A very Chicago celebration

The Bears’ surge has revived the fan base in ways few expected after the team’s 0-2 start. Johnson’s fiery leadership and charismatic locker-room energy have made him one of the league’s most popular new coaches, and Friday night’s moment only added to his rising profile.

Asked about the shirtless celebration, Williams smiled and said, “He’s a man of the people, let’s say that.”

Chicagoans may need to bundle up for Tuesday’s giveaway, heavy snow is in the forecast, but that won’t stop fans from lining up.

In a season where the Bears have gone from afterthought to contender, free hot dogs feel like the perfect symbol of the city’s renewed optimism.

And if Johnson keeps delivering wins, Chicago may soon need more than one giveaway to keep up.
