Canelo Alvarez refuses to fight Jake Paul, but never tires of taking shots at him

It has been clear for several days now that an eventual showdown between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and marketing star Jake Paul was a nonsense. So why does the Mexican keep talking about the YouTuber at every opportunity?

The answer is simple, because the media insists on looking for the story, especially when relating certain events or narrative lines to get ‘meat’. And in the case of Canelo and Jake Paul they found the perfect excuse, the new fight of the ‘Problem Child’ against the Mexican Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., to be held next June 28 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Canelo supports his compatriot

During the pre-fight activities for Canelo’s fight against William Scull in Saudi Arabia, many media outlets asked the Mexican for his opinion on the upcoming fight of ‘Julito’, whom he defeated by unanimous decision in 2017 in Las Vegas.

Canelo Alvarez is convinced that the junior can beat the YouTuber, whom he minimized despite the advantage given by age, as he is 28, compared to the 39-year-old son of the legend. Canelo’s answer to the question of who is going to win that fight was blunt: “Obviously Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. And I hope he wins. If he prepares very well and takes good care of himself. He wins it,” he said.

Jake Paul defends himself against criticism

And it is precisely the issue of age that now occupies Jake Paul’s time and attention, as in recent days he has only defended himself against criticism of his choice of opponent, although we all know that around this character we are not strictly talking about boxing, but about marketing, and incredibly, Chavez Jr.’s name still ‘sells’, despite his addictions and the scandal caused by the fact that he has thrown his career overboard.

In a video posted on his X account, Paul used Paddy Pimblett’s recent TKO victory over 39-year-old Michael Chandler to justify his choice of 37-year-old Chavez Jr. as his next opponent: “Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is a former world champion, a world cruiserweight champion. He’s the same weight as me, the same size as me and 20 years more professional boxing experience than me,” he said.

And he concluded his argument: “Last week, Paddy Pimblett beat Michael Chandler and the whole world went crazy, but nobody mentioned Michael Chandler’s age. That’s because he’s still in his prime, the same age as Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. If people didn’t have a problem with Paddy, why do they have a problem with me? So when I beat him, don’t even complain about his age,” said the YouTuber.
