Canelo Alvarez confesses which of his rivals he has hated the most

Boxing is a sport where passion overflows with every punch, emotions explode in the ring, and the build-up is a spectacle in itself that builds anticipation. Press conferences, face-offs, and heated statements not only sell the fight, but also create an epic narrative that captivates fans and turns every fight into an adrenaline-fueled event charged with rivalry.

The buildup serves that purpose, that’s for sure, but others prefer to keep their composure and remain respectful above all else. That’s the style of Canelo Alvarez, who prefers to stay out of controversy and keep his mouth shut.

The Mexican has a wealth of experience in the sport with 66 fights and only two losses, so you’d think the Guadalajara native would hate Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Dmitry Bivol, but that’s not the case. It’s a fighter who got under his skin with his trash talking in the lead up to their big fight.

Canelo Alvarez finally reveals which of his rivals he hates the most

In an interview with Dan Canobbio, the Mexican boxer was asked who his most hated opponent was. Saul had no problem answering the question and did not hesitate.

The person in the spotlight turned out to be none other than the controversial Billy Joe Saunders.

The Mexican’s argument was direct and short: “He was a bad person, that’s why.”

What happened between Saunders and Canelo?

We have to go back to 2021 to relive this fight that took place in Arlington, Texas, at the AT&T Stadium of the Cowboys. Canelo was putting three titles on the line and Saunders was putting one on the line in a tense fight where a win was vital for both of them beyond the belts, given how the buildup had gone.

Just two days before the fight, Canelo and Saunders were involved in a tense confrontation at their hotel, reflecting the strong antagonism between them. The energy between the two was at its peak.

Unfortunately for Billy, it was in the eighth round that Canelo took complete control and ended the fight with a punch that he himself described as one of the most powerful of his career.

Canelo’s powerful punch, which broke Saunders’ orbital bone, sealed his most satisfying victory to date. For Saunders, the fall was final: he has not fought since that fight four years ago and does not appear to be returning to the ring.
