After a critical liver transplant, Bernie Kosar has provided fans with an optimistic health update, as the 61-year-old shared that the surgery was successful and he is already feeling stronger.

Signaling a positive turn in his recovery, the NFL legend underwent three major operations this November alone, culminating in a life-saving liver transplant after the former quarterback had been waiting for the procedure since early 2024.

Finally receiving it last week after months of anticipation and from his hospital bed, he recorded a brief video for social media, smiling and telling viewers he was “feeling good,” offering reassurance to fans.

Now reports indicate Kosar‘s hospital stay will be shorter than originally scheduled. He is expected to be discharged on Monday afternoon on November 24, a move that brings relief to the former NFL star eager to return home ahead of previous expectations.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Kosar sent a text to friends confirming he would be back “to watch Monday Night Football,” as he turns on his television to see the San Francisco 49ers take on the Carolina Panthers.

“Hey, I’m out and I’m feeling good! Ready to enjoy the rest of the week and the rest of our lives! You matter,” Kosar said in a video, where he is seen wearing a hospital gown with his head propped on a pillow, smiling broadly.

The time Bernie Kosar met Taylor Swift

Kosar played for the Cleveland Browns from 1985 to 1993, leading the team to three AFC Championship Game appearances in 1986, 1987, and 1989, though each ended with a loss to the Denver Broncos during that era.

He ranks third in franchise history with 21,904 passing yards, cementing his legacy as one of the Browns’ all-time greats and a player admired for leadership and consistency on the field but in 2023, Kosar became part of a pop culture highlight.

The Super Bowl champion had the honor of meeting Taylor Swift when she joined him at a pre-game gathering hosted by Travis Kelce in 2023, marking an unexpected mersion of NFL icons and global music stars.

The pair posed for photos before heading to Arrowhead Stadium to watch the Chiefs defeat the Los Angeles Chargers, providing Kosar a unique moment to engage with one of the world’s most famous entertainers.

“Flat-out, it’s just amazing what a genuine, nice person she is,” Kosar said. “With the unbelievable talent she’s become, to see she’s an even better person was just really cool. Yesterday was a special time.”

After leaving Cleveland, Kosar joined the Dallas Cowboys for the remainder of the 1993 season, where he won his ring, and later concluded his career with the Miami Dolphins from 1994 to 1996.
