Brian Schottenheimer warns Cowboys about Eagles’ eight defensive threats ahead of clash

When Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer starts rattling off the strengths of the Philadelphia Eagles’ defense one by one, it isn’t just flattery – it’s a message to his own locker room.

Ahead of their November 23 matchup, Schottenheimer offered a detailed breakdown of what makes Philadelphia’s front seven one of the most disruptive units Dallas will face this season. It sounded less like an opposing coach’s scouting report and more like someone who had studies Vic Fangio’s work in detail.

Schottenheimer began by pointing to the Eagles’ powerful interior, calling Jalen Carter “a dominant interior defensive lineman” and noting how quickly he can collapse a pocket. He then highlighted the addition of edge rusher Jaelan Phillips, a player Fangio knows well from their time together in Miami and someone capable of wrecking plays off the edge.

Jordan Davis also earned a nod for his improved consistency, and Schottenheimer noted the group’s depth. Linebacker Zach Baun drew praise for his instincts and range, while Jihaad Campbell and Nakobe Dean were recognized for their speed and versatility.

Even the secondary wasn’t left out, with rookie Cooper DeJean singled out for his ability to shift between multiple roles and constantly find his way into the action.

All of this serves as a reminder of how wild the Week 1 meeting between these teams became, especially after Carter was ejected before the first snap for spitting on Dak Prescott. Dallas managed to protect its quarterback throughout that contest, but the taks of keeping Prescott on his feet this time will be more difficult.

Dallas’ offense has the firepower to respond

The Eagles’ defense enters the rematch riding momentum after suffocating Detroit last week, holding the Lions to their lowest scoring mark of the season and forcing Jared Goff into his worst completion percentage in 144 career games. Yet even with that strong outing, slowing down this Cowboys offense is a different challenge entirely.

Dallas comes in averaging 29.6 points per game and sits near the top of the league in total offense. Prescott is playing some of his sharpest football in years, fresh off a four-touchdown performance against the Raiders.

CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens form one of the league’s most explosive receiving duos, combining for 98 catches and more than 1,400 yards. Add tight end Jake Ferguson’s rise and Javonte Williams providing balance on the ground, and this offense presents problems at every level.

Schottenheimer may respect the Eagles’ defense, but he also knows his unit has the weapons to punch back.
