New York Jets running back Breece Hall has lashed out at a reporter for “nagging” teammate Justin Fields, accusing the journalist of pulling a “pathetic move” inside the team’s locker room following the quarterback’s recent demotion.
The conflict ignited on social media after Brian Costello of the New York Post shared details of an interaction with Fields on X (formerly Twitter).
Costello revealed that he approached Fields, who was recently benched by head coach Aaron Glenn, to gauge his reaction to the decision. According to Costello, Fields attempted to deflect, stating he was “going to get a massage and did not have time to talk.”
When Costello pressed for a reaction anyway, Fields offered a blunt assessment: “There’s no reaction. That’s life. S*** happens.”
Upon seeing the post, Hall immediately fired back, defending his quarterback and blasting the reporter’s tactics.
Hall divides fans by calling a reporter “pathetic”
“Pathetic move by you tbh,” the 24-year-old running back wrote in a response that quickly went viral. “Wish some of yall would grow up and stop acting like little kids nagging somebody till they get mad lol.” Hall doubled down by reposting another user who compared the New York media to “a 4 yr old kid asking ‘why, why, why, why’.”
The exchange sparked a divide among fans. Some praised Hall for sticking up for his teammate, with one user writing, “Amen!! Love seeing someone on the Jets stick up for Fields.”
Others, however, argued that answering tough questions comes with the territory of a multi-million dollar salary. “Love you Breece but this ain’t it… don’t suck at your job and you won’t get asked these questions,” one critic countered.
Fields’ inconsistency sent him back to the bench, causing controversy
The tension stems from the news that Fields has been demoted for the second time this season, with 36-year-old veteran Tyrod Taylor set to start against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
Coach Aaron Glenn previously attempted to make this switch earlier in the season, but it backfired dramatically when Taylor injured his knee in practice immediately after being named the starter.
Fields returned to the lineup to lead the Jets to wins over the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns, but a dire performance in last Thursday’s 27-14 loss to the New England Patriots prompted Glenn to turn back to Taylor.
