Bo Bichette scares off suitors with his excessive demands

Bo Bichette remains a free agent despite interest from several MLB teams, and the main reason for this is his high price tag, which, along with his recent ups and downs, is causing doubts among his main suitors.

Despite the interest of major teams, his contract demands of close to $300 million have begun to cool negotiations and generate caution among potential buyers.

Pros and cons of Bo Bichette

For several years, Bo Bichette was considered one of the best offensive infielders in baseball. Between 2019 and 2023, he stood out for his hitting consistency, averaging close to .300 and providing power and consistent production from the middle of the diamond.

However, his market value has become more difficult to assess. Although his offense made him a key piece for Toronto, his defense at shortstop always left doubts, opening the possibility of an eventual move to second or third base, something that some teams consider when analyzing a long-term investment.

Moreover, 2024 was, without question, the worst year of his career. Injuries limited his participation and his production dropped dramatically, with numbers well below his standard. The memory of that campaign lingers and keeps alarm bells ringing in the offices of several teams just as free agency approaches.

In 2025, Bichette managed to regain some of his offensive prestige, with a high average, more extra-base hits and a constant presence in the lineup. Even so, for many executives, one good season is not enough to justify an elite contract in an increasingly risk-averse market.

Where will Bo Bichette play next season?

Teams like the Phillies, Yankees, Cubs, Red Sox and Dodgers have been linked with Bichette. In all cases, the interest is there, but the price seems to be the main obstacle.

if teams stick to their stance.

Accepting a bridge deal would allow him to prove that his elite version is still alive and renegotiate from a stronger position. Meanwhile, time marches on and options will slowly run out.
