The quest to reach his 25th Grand Slam title came to an end, after Novak Djokovic was eliminated from the British tournament. Novak, one of the greatest players in the history of tennis, suffered a defeat against the number 1 ranked player in the ATP, Jannick Sinner who won in three sets by a double 6-3 and 6-4.

The best chance at making history may now be gone, as Novak Djokovic withdrew from the tournament just steps away from the final. His unexpected exit has sparked a wave of speculation, with many fans and analysts questioning whether the Serbian superstar is nearing retirement. Could this be the end of one of the greatest careers in tennis history?

One of the biggest setbacks in his Wimbledon journey.

Novak Djokovic is dealing with a complex pain, and uring his participation at the All England Club, the Serbian addressed new physical problems caused by an injury that has prevented him from performing at 100%.

Nevertheless, Djokovic has shown that he can reach the final rounds and continue his battle to win a major trophy. But his pain issues are a big set back, as he said in his post-match press conference after the straight-sets loss, where he explained what he had been going through.

“I probably have to revisit everything and see with my team and family how I want to proceed with my schedule and where I want to peak and how I want to train. Try to do things. I don’t know what I can do differently to be honest. Because the amount of hours I spend on a daily basis to take care of myself,” Djokovic told to the press.

He also added that he wants to continue in the highest level possible to challenge the new upcoming stars and the recent ones. “I’d like to challenge everyone out there who’s on tour to see if anyone takes care of themselves more than me… and I unfortunately don’t get rewarded for that right now, with injuries at the later stages of Slams. But I was rewarded for many many years.” He added.

The tennis superstar stated that he will continue pursuing his eighth Wimbledon title, vowing to return next year in hopes of fulfilling his dream of becoming, alongside Roger Federer, the most decorated champion in All England Club history.

Is Retirement Near? Fans Question Djokovic’s Future

At 38 years old, Novak Djokovic has had an extraordinary career on the ATP Tour, winning nearly every major title and establishing himself as one of the most iconic and influential players in tennis history. However, he hasn’t won a Grand Slam title since 2023, when he crowned champion at the U.S. Open.

For his advanced age and his recent title drought, fans have begun to question whether he is up to future challenges. They have flooded the social media with comments regarding the Serbian star. One wrote, “Age gets us all.. that’s life.. it’s time for the greatest Novak Djokovic to call it quits imo“

Another fan commented that “It‘s genuinely time for Djokovic to retire, and I mean this with zero disrespect,” while other highlighted that he cannot compete against the top-2 players, “He can’t compete against the top 2 and that will hinder his ability to win any title.”

However there are others that defended Novak’s career and praised his achievements in world tennis. Saying that he does not need to prove anything to anyone, and he is one of the most complete players.

Novak Djokovic is expected to make his next appearance at the U.S. Open, but ongoing injury setbacks have cast doubt on his participation in the season’s final Grand Slam. For now, the spotlight shifts to Italian star Jannik Sinner and Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, who are set to compete for the title this Sunday.
