Aaron Judge pushes Brian Cashman for Yankees to retain Cody Bellinger

Without a doubt, the New York Yankees, although they reached the divisional series in the American League, their season was taken as a resounding failure for not achieving the championship. After leaving behind this last season, the team is already thinking about the 2026 campaign where one of those captains, Aaron Judge, wants to bring back outfielder Cody Bellinger.

For many MLB analysts, the decision the Bronx Bombers make about the 2019 MVP winner could make or break the franchise’s season.

Aaron Judge wants Cody Bellinger to play for the Yankees in 2026

Cody Bellinger is being courted by the Mets, Blue Jays, Dodgers, Angels and many other MLB teams. Bellinger hit .272 with 29 home runs, 98 RBIs and an .814 OPS during the 2025 season, demonstrating his value and the impact he can have on any team.

Aaron Judge is pushing hard for Cody Bellinger to be a Yankee next season.

The team in this free agency season has only re-signed Trent Grisham for 22 million and added Amed Rosario, Paul Blackburn and Ryan Yarbrough, suggesting that the Yankees are waiting for Cody to make a decision while managing the payroll, which is projected to be around 300 million.

The Yankees consider Bellinger essential to their offense and outfield lineup, as he provides a left-handed bat and defensive flexibility. Aaron Judge has publicly supported Cody’s return, putting pressure on Cashman, reinforcing his importance for next season.

What would Cody Bellinger’s contract with the New York Yankees be?

Analysts project a $180 million contract for Bellinger, a possible $30 million-a-year deal over six years, which would fit the Yankees‘ long-term payroll plans.

Other sources, such as a report from Forbes, mention that Bellinger is seeking an eight-year, $400 million contract, although this was later clarified and pointed out as a possible maneuver by agent Scott Boras. Meanwhile, New York does not rule out alternatives such as Austin Hays, although the message within the Bronx and from Aaron Judge is clear: Cody Bellinger is a priority and losing him could mean another year without the Major League title.
