A new chapter opens in the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry. The protagonists of a recent clash between the two franchises are player Isia Kiner-Falefa and manager Aaron Boone.

Kiner-Falefa is known for his media savvy and good sense in handling public controversy. He demonstrated this by mentioning that the Blue Jays, his former team, preferred to play against New York in the 2025 postseason than against Boston, because the Yankees were a less complicated opponent.

Such words were spoken recently during spring training with the Red Sox, his team for the 2026 campaign.

Boone did not like the player’s words, but he held back. He opted for a measured and distant position from the controversy so as not to increase the heat that already exists between the two organizations.

The shadow that haunts Kiner-Falefa

Some Toronto fans take IKF’s statements as a joke. They still remember that the shortstop was a factor in the Blue Jays losing the World Series against the Dodgers after he was thrown out at the plate during the seventh game just when they needed to fight back against Los Angeles.

He was heavily criticized at the time and to this day he is reminded that it was his “fault” that they ended up losing the title.

Aaron Boone is more concerned about Paul Goldschmidt

The player is happy to be back with the Yankees. He knows the manager has plans for him in a backup role behind first baseman Ben Rice.

Honestly, when last year ended, I had such a good time here that I hoped my time here was not over

Paul Goldschmidt

After signing a one-year, $4 million contract, Goldschmidt spoke with Boone to plan what his presence on the roster will be like. He will give up his starting role, but his presence will be important as an experienced player. His teammates respect him and want to have him around.
