A.J. Brown talks about the reasons for the loss to the Cowboys and ‘winks’ at Jalen Hurts

Although the Philadelphia Eagles remain atop the NFC East standings and among the top teams in the NFL, last Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys gave the team and coaching staff plenty to reflect on. One of them was wide receiver A.J. Brown, who, in his comments and opinions, seemed to point to Jalen Hurts as one of those responsible for the result.

The reigning Super Bowl champions were leading 21-0, which angered many fans and others for squandering such a comfortable advantage. But above all, it raised questions about what’s going wrong: is it Nick Sirianni as head coach, is it Hurts as quarterback, the offensive and defensive coordinators, or a combination of both?

A.J. Brown half-explains Eagles’ failure and praises Cowboys

NBC Philadelphia reporter Ashlyn Sullivan shared Brown’s message on X: “A.J. Brown pointed to the Cowboys’ second-half defensive adjustments to explain why the Eagles struggled on offense, along with self-inflicted injuries. He pointed to himself making a false start and said he needed to get on the same page.”

Brown emphasized Dallas’ defensive changes, saying Philadelphia never responded. Although he briefly acknowledged a false start of his own and said he needed to “get on the same page,” his tone suggested the real problem stemmed from the offense’s inability to respond-a criticism aimed squarely at Jalen Hurts. He didn’t mention Hurts by name directly, but the message was crystal clear.

Jalen Hurts completed 13 of 17 passes for 157 yards and 1 TD against the Cowboys

Following the loss to Dallas at AT&T Stadium, the Philadelphia Eagles’ star quarterback spoke to the media. “There are a lot of situations where it’s showing up, and we’ve been able to overcome it and force ourselves to win,” said Hurts. “Tonight, we didn’t. We played a very tough first half, and in the second half, we were nowhere near our level. We have a lot to learn, and we have a short week to react,” he stated.

After taking a 21-0 lead, the Eagles fell to 8-3 with their 24-21 loss to the Cowboys on Sunday in Arlington, Texas. Hurts completed 13 of 17 passes for 157 yards with a touchdown in the Eagles’ first three series, then 3 of 9 passes for 26 yards in the next five series, and then 11 of 13 passes for 106 yards in the final three series.
