Zverev’s anger when Alcaraz asked for the physio: “You can’t ask for attention for cramps”

Alexander Zverev accused the Australian Open of protecting Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner during the tournament. His anger became apparent when the Spaniard, visibly cramping in the third set, called for medical assistance.

At that moment, the German turned to the supervisor and said: “It’s unbelievable that they treat cramps, it’s nonsense. You can’t ask for medical attention for that although it’s not my decision”. Then he insisted on his idea: “You’re protecting these two guys all the time”.

At the end of the match Sascha had lost his memory: “I don’t remember what I said, but I don’t want this to be the subject when it was one of the best battles that have been played at the Australian Open”

The German’s protest was based on the time the physio spent treating the world number one. During a match, players can resort to physio treatment for muscle problems, but this time cannot exceed one minute.

If it exceeds that time, it is a ‘medical time out’ that can reach three minutes, but they are not intended to treat discomfort such as cramps.
