At the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez put his WBO and WBA welterweight belts on the line against Cuban Yuniel Dorticos. Despite having a tough time in the ring, the Mazatlan pugilist managed to win by unanimous decision to retain his titles in his second defense.

The fight between Zurdo’ Ramirez and Dorticos was the co-main event of the long-awaited card between Jake Paul and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. The Mexican pugilist was unable to show his best version, but in the second part of the fight he began to improve to the point of closing in better conditions, which allowed him to come out with his fist in the air.

Zurdo Ramirez on the ropes from the early rounds

The first two rounds went to the Cuban, who overwhelmed ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez, who did not know how to counter the combinations and especially in the second round he had a hard time, although shortly afterwards he was able to respond with a couple of combinations that balanced the fight a little

It had to be until the second part of the fight that the Mexican was finally able to land the best punches, enough to be able to defend for the second time his WBO and WBA titles and remain with only one defeat in his career as he has a record of 48-1.

Zurdo Ramirez: A strong finish

It was in the last round that he found a good combination of punches that not only sentenced the fight in his favor, but also forced the Cuban to look for the knockout after receiving the point deduction for a couple of low blows after the referee’s warning.

This way, ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez can now choose to look for a fight against Australian fighter Jai Opetaia, although he will have to show a better version than this night because during the first rounds he was slow and out of condition, according to specialists.
