The Boston Red Sox struck first in the Bronx, taking down the New York Yankees 3-1 in Game 1 of their Wild Card series. Now, the pressure is squarely on the Yankees, who must win Game 2 at Yankee Stadium to stay alive. With Boston one victory away from advancing to the AL Division Series, Wednesday night promises drama, urgency, and high-stakes baseball between the sport’s fiercest rivals.

When and where to watch

  • Date & Time: Wednesday, October 1 – 7:00 p.m. ET
  • Venue: Yankee Stadium, New York
  • Broadcast / Streaming: ESPN and MLB.tv

What’s at stake

A Red Sox win means a ticket to the AL Division Series. A Yankee victory forces a decisive Game 3 back at Yankee Stadium. With the history between these two clubs, every pitch feels bigger than the last.

After dropping Game 1, New York needs its lineup to deliver big hits. Aaron Judge and Juan Soto will be counted on to spark the offense. Rafael Devers and Triston Casas powered the Red Sox in Game 1. Another strong showing could send them through.

The Yankees are expected to lean on a trusted starter to keep their season alive, while Boston has options to mix and match with their bullpen if needed.

Boston is one step away from advancing, but the Yankees won’t go quietly with their season on the line. Game 2 at Yankee Stadium is set to be another emotional chapter in this rivalry, with everything pointing toward a dramatic finish.
