The bad news continues for the New York Yankees after they announced that they will send designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton to the injured list to start the season due to an elbow problem that has become complicated
According to a report by the New York Post, the Yankees doctors subjected Stanton to platelet-rich plasma injections in both elbows, but the treatment did not have the expected result, so he will have to undergo other treatments to improve his condition
Stanton, who won the 2017 National League MVP award, has been away from the team on a personal matter, but is expected to rejoin the Yankees in Tampa next week. The 35-year-old hit .233 with 27 home runs and 72 RBIs in 114 games last season.
He also had seven home runs and 16 RBIs in 14 postseason games and was the Most Valuable Player of the American League Championship Series to help the Yankees to their first World Series since 2009
Stanton has been out of action since the start of spring training and this will be the first time the slugger has missed Opening Day in his career. Sources indicate that Stanton’s injury does not have a defined timetable to return to play.
