Yankees plan interesting trade that could help them out of their collapse

The New York Yankees continue to lead the American League East, but they are going through a bad streak that extends to six consecutive losses, their worst moment so far this season. With three games without scoring a run, the team that until recently led several offensive categories now seems disoriented and ineffective. For a franchise with permanent postseason aspirations, this slump has set off alarm bells both in the locker room and in the front office.

As the MLB trade deadline approaches, the team may be evaluating external alternatives to strengthen its lineup. According to MLB.com journalist Mark Feinsand, one name that is strongly rumored is Colorado Rockies infielder Ryan McMahon

Ryan McMahon is a professional baseball player who plays for the Colorado Rockies in Major League Baseball (MLB)

Ryan McMahon, 30, signed a six-year, $70 million contract extension in 2022. Although his current numbers (.222 average with a .745 OPS, 11 home runs and 12 doubles in 291 plate appearances) are not spectacular, his versatility to play third, second and first base makes him an attractive option for the Yankees who are looking for a way to mitigate the absence of Oswaldo Cabrera, who will miss the rest of the year with an ankle problem.

Additionally, the current moment of the Rockies could also favor a possible negotiation, as they have a 16-57 record and are on their way to one of the worst seasons in the franchise’s history, so Colorado could consider parting with McMahon as part of a rebuilding process, freeing up payroll space and betting on young talent.

How are the New York Yankees doing?

For their part, the Yankees, despite maintaining a 42-31 record and leading the American League East, have seen their lead quickly shrink. The Rays are now just 1.5 games back and the Blue Jays are two games behind.

Not even the team’s offensive stars have been able to reverse the situation, which is why Aaron Judge himself has spoken out about the bad time the New York team is going through, while Giancarlo Stanton, who has just returned from injury, has had good at-bats in his two games back, but it is still too early to measure his real impact.

With a team that has shown potential but is now going through a worrying slump, the possibility of adding a player like McMahon could represent the boost that the Yankees offense needs to get back on track for the postseason.
