Yankees are ready to move on from Anthony Volpe: They’re eyeing a $186M replacment to take them to the World Series

Have the New York Yankees given up on Anthony Volpe? A recent report suggests the answer is yes. After three seasons in the majors and a disappointing 2025 campaign, the Yankees appear ready to move on from their once-promising shortstop and shift focus toward acquiring two-time World Series champion Corey Seager.

For 16 years, the Yankees have fallen short of championship glory, and Volpe’s underwhelming performance has only deepened the frustration.

Despite playing 153 games this season, Volpe committed 19 errors, led the league in miscues, and posted a batting average of just .212 with an OPS of .663. His 72 RBIs and 114 hits failed to offset defensive lapses, leaving fans and management questioning his role in the team’s future.

New York’s $186M gamble on Seager

Enter Corey Seager. The five-time All-Star and 2023 Rangers World Series hero has emerged as a prime target for the Yankees. Seager’s résumé includes 21 home runs, a 151 OPS+, and ranking seventh in WAR during his last healthy season.

He’s also the only player to win World Series MVP in both leagues, first with the Dodgers in 2020 and later with Texas in 2023. But acquiring Seager won’t come cheap. His contract carries $186 million over six years, and the Yankees would likely need to part with top prospects and controllable pitching assets.

Still, his proven production and defensive reliability could be the missing piece to end New York’s October heartbreak.

The Yankees have little time to decide Volpe’s fate

The Yankees now face a defining choice: continue investing in Volpe’s stalled development or make a bold move for Seager, whose presence could reshape the infield and reignite championship hopes.

For Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone, this decision may mark the turning point of the franchise’s next chapter.
