The world of sports broadcasting in Mexico is undergoing a profound transformation, with implications that go beyond simple rebranding. It was announced that Sky Sports is facing a restructuring process that could culminate in the disappearance of the brand in the country.

Sky Sports Mexico is one of the main pay television channels that broadcasts sports in the country. But now, they are in the midst of a process of uncertainty for both workers and people who have the service and do not know what will happen.

According to various sources, Sky Sports will cease to exist at the end of the month. This will bring to an end the restructuring process that had been initiated in 2024, after Televisa acquired Sky in its entirety and now it will cease to operate.

What will happen to Sky Sports broadcasts?

Sky Sports is known for having broadcasts of sporting events and international leagues such as the Bundesliga, LaLiga, Formula 1, among other events that attract the attention of the public.

Although the broadcasts will continue, it will be Izzi who will take over these sporting events to continue the offer for subscribers and not lose the benefits they already had by having Sky Sports.

With this move, Izzi continues to increase its broadcast offering considerably. Since October last year, it has acquired the rights to events such as Formula 1 and will now include European leagues.

However, this also rules out the impact on fans who have Sky Sports in satellite or cable packages, as the possible solution for subscribers was announced.

According to reports, the concept of Sky Sports Mexico will remain on Izzi and Sky, thus having the availability of selected events and maintain the exclusives as before.

What happened to Sky Sports in Mexico?

After the purchase made by Televisa in 2024, it was intended to merge the satellite signal with Izzi, the cable television company that is part of the Mexican television station.

Until last year, the merger was practically complete, however, it resorted to cost cutting. As a result, in this early 2026 many Sky Sports workers were informed of their dismissal.

It was reported that there were non-payments to several people within the company, a situation that has been occurring for the last four months. And so mass layoffs arrived within Sky Sports.
