Xavi Hernandez is once again in the spotlight three days before the elections at Barcelona. The Catalan launched a dart through social networks on Thursday. In Spanish, Catalan and English, the former coach was blunt and forceful after the numerous reactions to his words last Monday, in which he said that Laporta backtracked on the signing of Messi. “With the truth in front, always! With Barca in the heart, always! Visca el Barca! ??,” wrote the former midfielder. In addition, he accompanied the text with a photograph of himself celebrating a goal as a Barcelona player.

Xavi was once again the protagonist in the midst of the electoral campaign. On Monday, the former midfielder made headlines after some harsh statements about Joan Laporta. “In the Messi issue, the president does not tell the truth either. Leo was signed. In January 2023, after becoming world champion, we contacted him and he told me that he was excited to return and I saw it. We talked until March and I told him: ‘Well, when you give me the OK, I tell the president’, because I saw it football-wise. The president began to negotiate the contract with Leo’s father and we had the green light from LaLiga, but it was the president who threw everything back,” said the Catalan.

These statements have been at the center of the electoral debate ever since. Javier Tebas even came on the scene to say that LaLiga never gave the OK to the operation of the Argentine footballer, and Mateu Alemany, then sporting director of Barcelona, also gave his version in the preview of the Champions League match, ensuring that Xavi was right.

This Thursday, the Catalan once again raised his voice through social networks. In the early afternoon, he sent a clear, direct and forceful message to those who accuse him of lying. His text began with four verses from the Barca anthem that were certainly not chosen at random: “Son molts anys plens d’afanys, son molts gols que hem cridat i s’ha demostrat que mai ningu no ens podrà tòrcer” (They are many years full of efforts, are many goals that we have shouted and it has been shown that no one can ever twist us).

Victor Font

Xavi Hernandez has shown himself in these elections to be in favor of Victor Font. The former player was in fact at the presentation of the Catalan businessman’s candidacy and on February 28 he went to the headquarters of the then pre-candidate accompanied by his parents and his partner and gave his signature to the presidential candidate.
