Witness in 911 call says Dolphins coach ‘choked’ woman before arrest

It started with a frantic call to 911. A neighbor told dispatchers she had just seen Miami Dolphins assistant coach Ryan Crow with his hands around a woman’s neck outside of a Fort Lauderdale apartment complex. Moments later, she said, the pair disappeared upstairs-and then came the sound of a slam.

Crow, 37, was arrested early Friday morning and charged with one count of domestic battery. The Dolphins’ outside linebackers coach pled not guilty on Tuesday, but the newly released emergency call, obtained by TMZ, adds unsettling detail to a case that has already rocked Miami’s coaching staff.

In the audio, the caller described a man who matched Crow’s appearance: “A guy started choking his girl outside,” she said. “And then they went back inside upstairs to the floor and we heard him slam her.” She emphasized there were no weapons involved-just physical violence.

Police Report Confirms Altercation

Fort Lauderdale Police officers arrived just after midnight, responding to reports of a domestic disturbance. According to their report, the confrontation began as an argument about “past relationships” before escalating when Crow allegedly shoved the woman “out of anger.”

The alleged victim, described by the caller as “white, blonde and skinny,” refused medical treatment and was not seriously injured. Crow was arrested on the scene, booked into Broward County Jail, and released later on a $1,000 bond. As part of his release conditions, he cannot consume alcohol or drugs and must complete a substance abuse evaluation within 10 days.

Dolphins Put Crow on Leave

The Dolphins wasted little time responding. By Monday, Crow had been placed on administrative leave. Head coach Mike McDaniel addressed the situation during a press conference, saying the organization had no choice but to step in.

“The allegations, we take extremely serious,” McDaniel told reporters, via ESPN. “To be on a team, it’s a blessing that you have to have regard for things much bigger than yourself. Rule No. 1 is to protect the team, and that one was violated.“

Senior defensive assistant Sean Ryan has temporarily absorbed Crow’s duties as Miami gears up for the start of the season.

A Case with Wider Ripples

Though Crow has only been with the Dolphins for one year-following a six-year stint with the Tennessee Titans-his absence creates a sudden hole in McDaniel’s defensive staff. Beyond the football implications, the case puts the NFL back under the microscope when it comes to domestic violence issues.

The league has struggled with public perception since the Ray Rice scandal in 2014, and each new incident renews questions about accountability and consequences. For now, Crow’s next court date hasn’t been set, and his future in the NFL is very much uncertain.
