Why are the Philadelphia Eagles trying to imitate the Dallas Cowboys? A.J. Brown is at the center of the story

After reaching glory in 2024 by winning the second Super Bowl in franchise history in a dominant season, the Philadelphia Eagles took several steps backward in 2025. Despite winning the NFC East for the second consecutive year, the offense led by Jalen Hurts struggled throughout the season.

In that Super Bowl, the Eagles dominated the Kansas City Chiefs in every aspect of the game. However, during the 2025 season the team was constantly surrounded by reports of locker-room issues. Hurts was not the same player, Saquon Barkley failed to replicate his best form, and A.J. Brown became the most controversial figure on the roster. Ultimately, the Eagles were eliminated in the Wild Card round after a relatively comfortable loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

In fact, when it came to points scored within the NFC East, both the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys finished with more points than the Eagles. Philadelphia ranked 19th in the NFL in points per game and 23rd in passing yards, numbers that ultimately cost Kevin Patullo his job as the team’s offensive coordinator.

The Eagles want to move on from A.J. Brown

It appears clear that the Eagles are looking to move on from A.J. Brown, despite his tremendous talent. His relationship with Jalen Hurts and head coach Nick Sirianni is reportedly completely broken. However, the front office led by general manager Howie Roseman will not make it easy for any interested team.

Reports indicate that the asking price could be similar to what the New York Jets received from the Dallas Cowboys in the trade involving defensive tackle Quinnen Williams.

The Cowboys reportedly gave up a 2027 first-round draft pick, a 2026 second-round pick, and defensive tackle Mazi Smith. That type of package is what the Eagles would be seeking for Brown, according to NFL insider Mike Garafolo.

For that reason, acquiring Brown will not be easy. Despite everything, he still recorded another 1,000-yard season along with 7 touchdowns. Additionally, general manager Howie Roseman recently emphasized: “It’s hard to find great players in the NFL, and A.J. is a great player.”

What does seem clear is that Brown is frustrated with head coach Nick Sirianni, something that became evident during the season with several visible gestures of frustration. He also did not appear to have a particularly close relationship with quarterback Jalen Hurts.

So the situation is fairly clear strong> the 27-year-old wide receiver would like a fresh start with another team in the NFL, but any franchise interested in acquiring him will likely have to sacrifice high draft picks – and there may be teams willing to take that risk.
