The NFL continues to reveal details of the celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the Super Bowl, and one of the most notable announcements is the opening ceremony that will mark the start of the big game. The event will feature Green Day, an iconic American rock band, who will officially kick off Super Bowl 60 on February 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

The league confirmed that the performance will be commemorative, celebrating six decades of Super Bowl history, with the band accompanying generations of Most Valuable Players (MVPs) who will take to the field as part of the tribute.

A musical tribute to six decades of NFL history

Green Day, formed in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area, consists of Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool. The trio will perform a selection of their most iconic songs, in a show designed to connect different generations of football fans.“We are super excited to kick off Super Bowl 60 right here!” expressed Billie Joe Armstrong. “We are honored to welcome the MVPs who have made this sport and open the night for fans around the world. Let’s have fun! Let’s sing!”

The opening ceremony seeks to combine music, history and sporting legacy in one moment ahead of one of the most watched television events on the planet.

Schedule and broadcast of the opening ceremony

The opening ceremony of Super Bowl 60 will be broadcast live at 3:00 p.m. (Pacific Time) on NBC, Telemundo, Peacock and Universo, allowing fans to follow the tribute both from the stadium and from different digital platforms.

Tim Tubito, NFL senior director of events and game presentations, highlighted the importance of the event:

“Celebrating 60 years of Super Bowl history with Green Day as the hometown band, while honoring the legends who have defined the NFL, is an incredibly impactful way to kick off Super Bowl LX.”

The NFL reinforces the historic nature of Super Bowl 60, combining music, tribute and spectacle from the first minute, in an edition that seeks to pay tribute to the past while projecting the future of the most important sporting event of the year.
