It has undoubtedly been a turbulent week for Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier, whose reputation and career are collapsing after years of steady growth in the NBA. On Thursday, October 23, Rozier was arrested and placed in federal custody following an investigation into illegal betting activities.
Just hours after being detained by the FBI, he was seen leaving the courthouse in Orlando. He wore brightly colored shorts and a black hoodie as he exited through a back door toward a black SUV. His mother and attorney were also present at the scene.
Rozier is accused of placing a bet on an NBA game played on March 23, 2023, back when he was still with the Charlotte Hornets and facing the New Orleans Pelicans. The wager reportedly involved betting on himself to record poor statistics, and that’s precisely what happened. Barely nine minutes into the game, Rozier left the court citing a foot injury, an incident that ensured the bet paid off.
The NBA initially launched an investigation after betting companies detected irregularities, but no conclusive evidence was found. The FBI then reopened the case, and by October 23 of this year, authorities uncovered a broader scheme that allegedly involved not only Rozier but also former Portland Trail Blazers head coach, Chauncey Billups and former NBA player, as well as ex-player and now Cleveland Cavaliers assistant coach Damon Jones.
According to federal reports, an additional 31 individuals were arrested across multiple states for their roles in the same fraudulent network.
Polish swimsuit model files a child support lawsuit against Terry Rozier
Polish model Monika Jawdynska filed a paternity lawsuit against Terry Rozier in 2019, accusing him of being an irresponsible and negligent father. That same year, the baby she claims to have had with the Miami Heat guard was born.
A millionaire athlete or movie star should not be treated differently than anyone else.
Argued the Miami-Dade County court in the statement supporting the model’s petition.
Jawdynska, a redheaded influencer known for promoting her bikini line on social media, expressed regret that Rozier allegedly showed no interest in their daughter.
The Father was not present at her birth nor had any desire to be present, he has not seen or visited his daughter (even when he travels to Miami).
The Mother attempts to get the Father involved in the baby’s life but he doesn’t even ask for her pictures. The mother sends them unsolicited.
Stated the lawsuit filed against the player.
Rozier has reportedly confirmed taking a paternity test, which proved positive, and claims he voluntarily assumed financial responsibility for the child’s upbringing.
According to legal documents, Rozier and Jawdynska reached a confidential settlement in November 2020, resolving their legal dispute and closing that chapter of the player’s off-court troubles.
