The carefully guarded privacy that once defined the relationship between Jimmy Butler and Kaitlin Nowak has dissolved into a public legal clash over the financial boundaries of modern co-parenting.
While the six-time All-Star has spent years shielding his personal life from the media, court filings from early 2026 have exposed a bitter stalemate regarding the costs of raising their three children.
At the center of the dispute is a request for an additional $10,000 monthly fee for nanny services, a figure that would supplement the $55,000 Butler already provides in base child support.
Butler and Nowak‘s romantic history, which began in 2019, was characterized by its absence from the spotlight.
A Polish-American native of Nebraska, Nowak was born in December 1990 to entrepreneurial parents before pursuing a career as a lifestyle model and influencer.
Although the pair was spotted together at Super Bowl LIV in 2020 and Nowak was a semi-regular presence at Miami Heat games, the couple never officially married or shared their domestic lives on social media.
The relationship ultimately reached a formal conclusion in 2023, a shift confirmed when Butler explicitly stated on social media that he was single.
Legal representation critiques domestic spending and employment status
The current litigation focuses on whether the “temporary” financial arrangements established after their split remain justified as the children grow older.
Butler‘s legal team, led by attorney Brian Karpf, filed a motion to modify their existing agreement, specifically targeting the $120,000 annual nanny expense.
The filing argues that the family’s needs have evolved significantly; their eldest child, Rylee, is now six and entering school, while three-year-old Brayan is enrolled in preschool.
With Butler exercising equal time-sharing and shared custody, his representatives contend that the need for around-the-clock domestic help has diminished.
“Mother is unemployed and refuses to seek employment,” the court documents state, as reported by the Daily Mail. “With one child in preschool and Father exercising equal time-sharing… there is no legitimate reason for Mother to insist both on a nanny and that Father pay for that nanny.”
Butler‘s camp has framed the resistance to these payments as a matter of fiscal responsibility, asserting that “Mother is not entitled to live as if she is married to a National Basketball Association (NBA) player.”
