Before Bad Bunny takes center stage at the Super Bowl LX halftime show, the NFL will kick off the party with a high-voltage opening ceremony headlined by Green Day, one of the most influential rock bands of the last few decades. The event will take place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, as part of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Super Bowl.

Green Day’s performance will officially kick off the big game and will be broadcast live on NBC, Peacock, Telemundo and Universo, allowing millions of fans to follow the show from anywhere in the world.

Time and where to watch the Super Bowl LVIII opening ceremony

The opening ceremony for Super Bowl LX will take place on Thursday, February 8, with a start time of 3:00 p.m. Pacific Time (PT). In other time zones, the broadcast can be seen at 5:00 p.m. Central Time (CT) and 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time (ET).

This special act is part of the official Super Bowl week and will take place before the pre-game entertainment, becoming the first major musical moment of the most important sporting event of the year in the United States.

Green Day, protagonists of historic start

Green Day, a band originally from the East Bay area of San Francisco, was chosen by the NFL not only for its musical legacy, but also for its strong connection to California. The trio consisting of Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool will perform a selection of their most iconic anthems, including “Basket Case”, “Longview”, “Good Riddance” and “American Idiot”.

“We’re super excited to kick off Super Bowl 60 in our own backyard,” Armstrong said in an official statement. “We are honored to welcome the MVPs who have shaped the sport and open the night for fans around the world.”

The presentation will also pay tribute to generations of Super Bowl Most Valuable Players, who will accompany the band during their exit to the field, in a staging full of symbolism and history.

Who is performing at Super Bowl 2026? Opening ceremony, national anthem, halftime show and more

The opening ceremony will be just the beginning of a day full of entertainment. Afterwards, the audience will enjoy the pre-match performances, with Brandi Carlile performing “America the Beautiful”, Coco Jones singing “Lift Every Voice and Sing” and Charlie Puth singing the US national anthem.“Celebrating 60 years of Super Bowl history with Green Day as the hometown band is an incredibly powerful way to kick off Super Bowl LX,” said Tim Tubito, NFL senior director of events and presentations.

With music, sporting legends and a global audience, Super Bowl LX promises to get off to a strong start from the first minute.
