What message is Todd Monken sending to Browns about winning culture

The Cleveland Browns are turning the page on a turbulent chapter and entering a new era under head coach Todd Monken, who is now officially in charge. Players reported for the first phase of the NFL offseason program this week, and while on-field workouts have yet to begin, Monken is already focused on meetings and establishing his team culture.

Todd Monken sets the tone in Cleveland

The man tasked with leading the Browns in the 2026 NFL season after Kevin Stefanski‘s departure delivered a clear message: anything that interferes with winning and player development will be addressed immediately.

“We’re in the development business and the winning business,” Monken said. “Anything that gets in the way of those two things has to be confronted and eliminated.”

Monken takes over one of the most unstable NFL franchises in recent years, aiming to eliminate distractions and keep the team focused heading into 2026.

The Browns continue to insist they are not in rebuild mode, and their moves support that stance. The franchise hired a first-time head coach at 60 years old and, before NFL free agency, strengthened the offensive line by acquiring Tytus Howard with a three-year extension. They also added veteran linemen Zion Johnson and Elgton Jenkins.

The team also reworked the contract of Myles Garrett, while general manager Andrew Berry has made it clear the two-time Defensive Player of the Year is not available in trade talks.

The biggest question remains at quarterback, where the Browns still lack a clear long-term answer. However, Cleveland has built a strong core of young talent through recent drafts and still holds nine picks in the 2026 NFL Draft to continue shaping the roster.

If Todd Monken can develop that talent and eliminate distractions, the Cleveland Browns could quickly re-emerge as a playoff contender in the NFL.
