Was Turki Alalshikh responsible for the cancellation of Canelo Alvarez vs Jake Paul?

After defeating Mike Tyson, YouTuber Jake Paul felt that the door would be open for him to face the big names in professional boxing and therefore, he even boasted that he had an arrangement to face Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

However, hours later, the Mexican denied any possibility and in fact assured that he would never face someone like Paul, but since then the question has remained as to what happened during those hours for the youtuber to make such an important announcement, without having something certain in his pocket and more by the way in which the Mexican expressed himself about the American:

“Hello guys, don’t pay attention to anything this damn YouTuber says. I only fight real fighters… no f***ing around with Canelo! Let’s go!” Canelo said in a video shared by The Ring on its social networks on February 8

In response, Paul responded with harsh criticism: “Here you can see Canelo’s signature and mine on the right,” and began a campaign where he accuses the Mexican of “avoiding him”. Unfortunately for him, he could not achieve anything and had to settle for a lower level opponent, the veteran, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., who will surely be facing the last opportunity to do something important in his career, in the event announced for June 28 at the Honda Center in Anaheim.

Meanwhile, Canelo found himself with a juicy four-fight deal with Turki Alalshikh and on Saturday he will take part in the first, against Cuban William Scull in a bid to regain the undisputed 168-pound title

He is then expected to formalize a big fight against Terence Crawford in September, in the first ever fight between two undisputed champions, but in different divisions. He will then conclude his contract with the two projected fights for 2026.

What really happened between Canelo Alvarez and Jake Paul?

Paul had offered the Mexican a $150 million purse, which was not enough for Canelo, who broke the deal the next day, even though Paul had already announced the fight for May 3. However, the loser in this situation was the YouTuber, who is still looking to face a great active boxer to earn legitimacy as a fighter

But the numbers Canelo got with his contract with Riyadh Season were too much for the YouTuber. According to reports, Canelo signed for the impressive sum of $400 million for the four fights between 2025 and 2026. For this night, TSM Sports estimated that the champion will earn $80 million and Scull, according to the not inconsiderable $3 million

Paul’s fight against Mike Tyson generated around $40 million, plus some PPV income. But even if he had the support of Netflix for a fight against Canelo, the total income would hardly exceed $100 million. Canelo Alvarez knows exactly where the real money is, and he is following it. Jake Paul will have to look for another opponent.
