Vikings add another well-known QB to their wish list in case they can’t trade for Joe Burrow

Daniel Jones’ name could soon be linked to the Minnesota Vikings. The quarterback, who enjoyed “the best season of his career” before an injury abruptly ended his year, now emerges as one of the most intriguing names heading into 2026 free agency.

Jones was ranked as “the No. 3 free agent in the 2026 class” by Zachary Pereles of CBS Sports, an assessment that has reignited interest from teams seeking stability at the most important position on the field. While Indianapolis has been identified as the ideal destination, the Vikings are clearly on the radar as a serious alternative.

Minnesota is already familiar with Jones. The team acquired him following his release from the Giants midway through the 2024 season, though his stint at the time went largely unnoticed. His injury is not the most encouraging storyline from 2025, but prior to that setback he was putting together a highly competitive season. The quarterback posted a 68.0 completion percentage for 3,101 yards, 19 touchdowns, eight interceptions, and five rushing scores.

Indianapolis wants to keep him

The 2026 free-agency narrative surrounding Jones has centered on the pace of negotiations. While the Colts have made it clear that they have “already made their decision,” the market remains fluid.

Roster movement in Indianapolis signals that the team is unwilling to wait through prolonged processes, instead aiming to finalize its roster as quickly as possible in order to shift focus to the Draft.

As the hours pass, the tug-of-war between an offer from the Colts and the possibility of a move to the Vikings in the NFC grows more intense. Since his departure from the Giants, Daniel Jones has gone from a free agent surrounded by uncertainty to a primary target for multiple franchises that believe his best version has yet to be seen.

But these are not the only possibilities. The Philadelphia Eagles have emerged as a surprise contender for Jones’ services. Although Philadelphia has Jalen Hurts entrenched as its unquestioned starter, the organization has historically shown strong interest in strengthening quarterback depth with experienced veterans.

For many analysts, the potential move is considered “impactful” given the divisional rivalry between New York and Philadelphia. From a strategic standpoint, however, it makes sense, as the Eagles would secure a capable backup who could run a mobile offense should Hurts suffer an injury.

For Jones, joining a successful system under head coach Nick Sirianni could help rehabilitate his image after years of instability in New York.
