Social media has a long memory and, in the midst of the media impact generated by recent events in Jalisco, an episode from the past has come back into the spotlight.
A video of Mexican footballer Antonio “Pollo” Briseño sending a personalized greeting to Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho“, has resurfaced, generating controversy and questions about whether the Toluca player knew who he was sending the greeting to.
The origin of the controversial video of Pollo Briseño
The moment occurred in 2022, when Antonio Briseño was playing for Club Guadalajara. At that time, the defender was participating in a digital platform where celebrities recorded personalized greetings in exchange for payment.
The dynamic was simple: fans requested a message, made the payment and the celebrity sent the video without necessarily knowing the real identity of the requester.
The clip that is circulating again shows the footballer saying: “Hello Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, how are you? This is your friend Antonio ‘Pollo’ Briseño and I want to thank you…“
The video lasts only a few seconds, but it was enough to generate controversy both at the time and now.
A greeting that would have occurred out of ignorance according to Briseño himself
After going viral in 2022, Briseno clarified that the message was recorded like any other request within the platform and that he did not verify who made the payment or the context behind the requested name.
According to his version, it was a situation arising from ignorance and not from a personal relationship with the alleged leader of the Jalisco Cartel.
So far, Antonio Briseño has not issued a new public statement on the reappearance of the video.
Who is Antonio ‘Pollo’ Briseño?
The Mexican defender had a long spell at Chivas de Guadalajara, but as the seasons went by, and with different coaches, he was gradually relegated to the bench until he joined Toluca, a club that revived him football-wise and where he began to have some regularity without becoming a starter. Collectively, the dividends are positive as he has won two consecutive league titles and they are currently one of the strong contenders for the title for the third time.
