Tyson Fury says he will not return to the ring: “I’m too old and grey”

Tyson Fury, known both for his talent in the ring and his unpredictable personality, is back in the news. This time, not for a victory or a scheduled fight, but for what appears to be his definitive retirement from professional boxing.

In a recent interview during his attendance at the Doncaster racecourse, where one of his racehorses competed, the “Gypsy King” was questioned by Sky Sports journalists about his possible return to boxing. His response was as brief as it was surprising:

Never. Too old, look at my beard, all gray. Boxing is a young man’s game

Tyson Fury

This comment comes just weeks after he himself expressed his desire for a third fight against Oleksandr Usyk, after two consecutive defeats against the Ukrainian that took him away from the heavyweight throne.

A definitive goodbye for Tyson Fury?

Although boxing has been his life for more than a decade, Tyson Fury has shown diverse interests outside the ring. His role as a businessman, and his appearances on television shows in the United Kingdom, have kept him in the public eye, even outside of sport.

Currently, Fury seems more focused on enjoying his family, his role as a horse breeder, and living a less physically demanding life, away from the intense training camps and the spotlight of major sporting events.

The heavyweights of boxing

Tyson Fury leaves an interesting gap in the heavyweight division. With Usyk established as the unified champion and Anthony Joshua looking to regain prominence, the landscape is open for new figures seeking stardom.

Names such as Daniel Dubois, Filip Hrgovic and Jared Anderson could take advantage of this generational transition in the category.

Tyson Fury and the reaction of professional boxing fans

While some boxing fans already accept this farewell as definitive, others still doubt it. History has shown that with Tyson Fury, nothing can ever be taken for granted. His personality, marked by surprising statements and changing decisions, has made him an unpredictable figure both inside and outside the ring.

On social media, thousands of fans expressed both their sadness and skepticism:

“We’ve heard it before,”“Sure in six months he’s already announcing his comeback”, or “Boxing is not the same without Tyson”, were some of the most repeated comments on platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.

Tyson Fury has been one of the most iconic figures in contemporary boxing. His charisma, unique fighting style and ability to sell shows made him a global icon.
