Tyson Fury calls Oleksandr Usyk a money-chaser for Deontay Wilder decision

No one truly expected Tyson Fury to stay retired. As has been the case on several other occasions, Fury claimed he was retiring from boxing, only to get bored of the non-fighting life and make plans to get back into the ring. This time around, it seemed he was just waiting for the Oleksandr Usyk domino to fall.

Fury was holding out hope for a trilogy fight against Usyk. Unable to get revenge in the rematch, Fury wants one final shot at Usyk. He won’t get it, though, at least not yet. Usyk has made plans for two or three more fights before hanging up his gloves. First up will be Deontay Wilder, whom Usyk has been wanting to fight against for a while. While Wilder is a heavyweight legend, he isn’t even close to what he used to be. That has led to some criticism hurled at Usyk.

Tyson Fury explains why Oleksandr Usyk wants to fight Deontay Wilder

Fury has joined that party, calling out Usyk for choosing Wilder instead of more talented boxers; particularly Agit Kabayel. Following his unretirement, The Gypsy King commented on Usyk’s decision to take on Wilder instead of a more in-form fighter.

“Agit’s [WBC] interim champion, so they should force Usyk to either defend or vacate. Me personally, I don’t think Usyk’s gonna fight anybody in those WBC rankings, because it doesn’t make any commercial sense. There’s no money in them fights. Is he gonna get paid for fighting Agit Kabayel? Is he gonna get paid for fighting Lawrence Okolie? No.“

With the idea of making as much money as possible before he calls it quits, it makes sense for Usyk to fight boxers who can draw in more of a crowd. Wilder certainly qualifies. Unfortunately, that means fans may not see Usyk against the very best to close out his career. But the Ukrainian already took those risks over the past half-decade. At this point, he can do whatever he wants.
