Tyrese Haliburton crowns Steph Curry the ultimate mentor: He cares about people

Tyrese Haliburton didn’t hold back when praising Steph Curry as the best person he’s ever met in basketball. The Indiana Pacers star recently opened up about the mentorship he received from Curry during their time together with Team USA, emphasizing how those lessons shaped not only his game but his character.

Speaking on The Young Man and the Three podcast, Haliburton described how, despite limited playing time at the Olympics, he was in full listening mode – absorbing wisdom and habits from established superstars.

“I didn’t play a ton, so a lot of it was for me to learn, and pick guys’ brains, and Steph was just that guy for me,” he said. Curry, Haliburton added, would routinely invite him to the gym, telling him, “Come on, Ty – we’re going to work out.”

The younger guard credited Curry with a rare combination of attention to detail, generosity, and consistency. “He is so unbelievable, the way he can remember people, he cares about people,” Haliburton said.

“I just can’t say enough good things about Steph.” He even shared that they stay in touch – grabbing dinner when their schedules allow and nurturing a friendship beyond basketball.

Mentorship that molds a mindset

Haliburton’s glowing tribute isn’t just about flattering talk. On the court, his strengths – court vision, composure under pressure, ability to read defenses – echo traits you’d associate with Curry’s prime.

The difference is that Haliburton not only studies those traits; he seeks to internalize the work ethic and humility that undergird them.

Small gestures left deep marks. Whether it was Curry remembering names, checking in on teammates, or pushing for extra workouts, those behaviors resonated. Haliburton’s reflections give a rare glimpse into how top-tier mentorship happens in pro sports – not just through grand gestures, but quiet consistency.

As Haliburton continues to grow into a leader on his own, he carries forward the imprint of Curry’s influence. In a league filled with stars, few relationships feel as genuine – and as fundamentally transformative – as this one.
