Travis Kelce: NFL star turned actor faces unexpected hate on set of Happy Gilmore 2

Travis Kelce, one of the most dominant tight ends in NFL history, is no stranger to on-field rivalries. Known for his flashy play and leadership with the Kansas City Chiefs, Kelce has made a name for himself not only as an elite athlete but also as a player that other teams love to hate.

His memorable “Ring Around the Rosie” trick play against the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023 was just one of the many moments that has cemented his status as a player who thrives in high-pressure situations. However, his reputation extends beyond football and even sparked an unexpected feud with a co-star in his new acting career.

As Kelce transitions into Hollywood, he has landed a role in the upcoming sequel Happy Gilmore 2, set to hit theaters in July 2025.

While his experience on set has generally been positive, there’s one person who didn’t exactly warm up to him: Christopher McDonald, the actor who famously portrayed the villainous Shooter McGavin in the original Happy Gilmore.

In an interview with Heavy Sports, McDonald, a die-hard Buffalo Bills fan, admitted that he “hated” Kelce, largely due to his success against the Bills on the football field. McDonald confessed, “I told him, I hate him. I hated him,” laughing off the tension.

His frustration stems from the Chiefs’ domination over the Bills, particularly Kelce’s performances in their postseason matchups. Despite this, McDonald still showed admiration for Kelce’s skills, acknowledging that Kelce’s prowess is undeniable, but also declaring, “He’s too damn good. And we’ll get him. We’ll get him one of these days.”

Kelce’s true character revealed by teammates

While McDonald’s rivalry-induced animosity may come as a surprise, it highlights just how much Kelce’s success has impacted even those outside the football world.

On the field, the Chiefs have reigned supreme, with Kelce consistently being a major contributor. The Chiefs’ dominance over the Bills in recent postseason games-despite close regular-season matchups-has made Kelce a central figure in the AFC rivalry.

However, Kelce’s true character is not just defined by his on-field achievements. A glimpse into his personality off the field came from his Chiefs teammate Trey Smith. On the New Heights podcast, co-hosted by Kelce’s brother Jason, Smith spoke candidly about his first impression of Travis.

Describing Kelce as having “crazy energy,” Smith explained how Kelce’s exuberance made him stand out. Despite this intense persona, Smith revealed the softer side of Kelce, sharing, “You really care for people, and you’re not afraid to give out your heart.” Smith emphasized how Kelce went out of his way to be kind to younger teammates, like him, showing genuine care and compassion.

Even with the rivalry between the Chiefs and the Bills, and McDonald’s playful animosity toward him, it’s clear that Kelce’s influence extends far beyond just football. Whether on the field or in the entertainment world, his energy, competitive spirit, and kindness continue to earn him respect from those around him.
