The Tour Championship has been producing champions since 1987, with its roll of honor featuring Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson and many other major winners.
Tommy Fleetwood became the latest champion in 2025, winning at East Lake with an 18 under total of 262 and collecting the $10 million first prize.
The 2026 champion has yet to be crowned, meaning Fleetwood remains the most recent name added to a history stretching almost four decades.
From Tom Watson to the Tiger Woods era
Tom Watson won the inaugural tournament in 1987, followed by Curtis Strange in 1988, Tom Kite in 1989 and Jodie Mudd in 1990.
Craig Stadler took the title in 1991, before Paul Azinger in 1992, Jim Gallagher Jr. in 1993, Mark McCumber in 1994, Billy Mayfair in 1995 and Tom Lehman in 1996.
David Duval won in 1997 and Hal Sutton followed in 1998, before Tiger Woods claimed his first Tour Championship in 1999.
Phil Mickelson interrupted Woods‘ run by winning in 2000, with Mike Weir taking 2001, Vijay Singh 2002, Chad Campbell 2003, Retief Goosen 2004, Bart Bryant 2005 and Adam Scott 2006.
Woods returned spectacularly in 2007, winning by eight strokes with a tournament record 257. Camilo Villegas won in 2008 before Mickelson collected his second title in 2009.
McIlroy joins Woods as the tournament’s record winner
Jim Furyk won in 2010, followed by Bill Haas in 2011, Brandt Snedeker in 2012, Henrik Stenson in 2013, Billy Horschel in 2014 and Jordan Spieth in 2015.
Rory McIlroy earned his first victory in 2016 before Xander Schauffele won in 2017. Woods then completed one of golf’s most memorable comebacks by capturing his third Tour Championship in 2018.
McIlroy matched that record over the following years. He won again in 2019 and, after Dustin Johnson took 2020 and Patrick Cantlay won 2021, secured his third title in 2022.
Viktor Hovland followed in 2023, with Scottie Scheffler winning in 2024 and Fleetwood succeeding him in 2025.
That leaves Woods and McIlroy tied as the Tour Championship’s most successful players with three victories each, while Mickelson is the only other multiple champion with two.
