Vanessa Trump is navigating one of the most difficult periods of her life, but that hasn’t stopped her from showing up for daughter Kai as the 19-year-old begins college and settles into a new home in Miami.
The former model, who revealed earlier this year that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, spent hours helping Kai shop for her first college apartment after the teenager began her freshman year at the University of Miami. The move wasn’t exactly seamless.
“I am totally exhausted from going to her apartment and coming back and forth and moving everything,” Vanessa said while the pair were shopping at Target.
Kai then admitted she had created some of the extra work herself: “Well, I kind of messed up the furniture delivery, so she drove to Miami yesterday,” she said.
Vanessa added that the trip meant waiting “for three deliveries,” before Kai laughed and revealed: “They sent them back.”
“It was okay, it was rush hour too, so it was fun times,” Vanessa joked. “What we do for our children, right?”
New chapter at University of Miami
The shopping run covered just about everything Kai needed for apartment life, from bedding and kitchen supplies to cleaning products.
Vanessa also made it clear that her daughter would be responsible for keeping the place tidy.
Kai jokingly suggested another plan: “Hey mom, my bathroom is dirty.”
“She is going to learn how to do that, or else it’ll just stay a mess,” Vanessa replied.
There was also one category Vanessa refused to add to the shopping list.
“She already has clothes. I’m not buying clothes. She could open up a clothing store with all the clothes she has,” she said.
Kai later shared how much the day meant to her.
“We spent HOURS shopping for everything I could possibly need for my apartment and getting ready for this new chapter of college life!” she wrote.
“So thankful my mom was there to do it all with me. She truly is the BEST mom, and I’m so grateful for her.”
Vanessa continues breast cancer treatment
The family milestone comes only months after Vanessa publicly disclosed her cancer diagnosis.
“While this isn’t the news anyone expects, I’m working closely with my medical team on a treatment plan,” she wrote in May.
“I am staying focused and hopeful while surrounded by the love and support of my family, my kids, and those closest to me.”
Vanessa later said she was recovering from surgery and preparing to begin the second stage of treatment.
Kai offered another positive update in July, saying her mother was “doing good.”
That context made the college move-in weekend carry a little more weight.
The Target runs, furniture problems and jokes about cleaning may have looked ordinary, but they marked an important family moment during an otherwise challenging year.
Vanessa may have been exhausted by the end of it, but she was exactly where Kai wanted her to be.
