Francesco Totti has sparked controversy. The legendary Italian ex-footballer has caused a lot of controversy after comparing his career with that of Lionel Messi to recall his 25 seasons as a Roma player.
“Il Capitano” pointed out that if Messi had stayed at a club like the one in the Italian capital for so long he surely “would not have won any Ballon d’Ors”.
“Put Messi for 25 years in Roma. 25 years in Roma and tell me how many Ballon d’Ors he would win. Would he win 10 Ballon d’Ors? Do you know how many Ballon d’Ors he would win? Zero,” said the Giallorossi’s eternal No.10 in an interview with a podcast called ‘Que Viva el Futbol’.
After his response about Messi and the Ballon d’Or, Totti was interrupted by the interviewer, who told him that he did not win the award because he had rejected Real Madrid, to which Francesco said he “did not need the award.”
“I don’t need the Ballon d’Or. I won everything with Roma in 25 years, that’s my victory. I don’t regret anything,” he said.
Totti’s statements comparing himself to Messi have caused a lot of surprise, as the Italian legend had shown his deep admiration for the Argentine, saying that he would be the only one who could wear Roma’s No.10 shirt.
