Tony Romo pays the price for criticizing Josh Allen too soon

During the AFC Wild Card matchup between the Buffalo Bills and the Jacksonville Jaguars, former quarterback and NFL analyst Tony Romo became the central figure-not for his breakdowns, but for the wave of criticism he received across social media due to his broadcasting style.

The game, aired on CBSwith Romo alongside Jim Nantz in the booth, sparked an intense digital reaction that made it clear many fans were growing tired of the analyst’s constant presence and commentary.

What stood out was not only Romo’s tendency to speak incessantly-an issue that viewers had pointed out on multiple occasions-but also what many perceived as a step beyond the ethical boundaries expected from a national broadcast analyst.

Why fans are calling for Tony Romo’s removal from CBS

Throughout the broadcast, many viewers interpreted Tony Romo as having a clear and strong inclination in favor of Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.

According to multiple reactions, fans felt Romo was no longer simply analyzing the game, but instead “sounded like he was actively cheering for Buffalo,” which generated frustration and accusations of bias, particularly among Jaguars supporters who believed such behavior was inappropriate for a broadcast of that caliber.

One of the most ridiculed moments of the transmission came when Romo emphasized the significance of routine plays with statements such as “Every play call in this game matters” and “If the Jaguars win this game, they have a shot at going to the Super Bowl.” These remarks quickly went viral due to their obvious nature, fueling memes and criticism across social platforms.

Additionally, several fans pointed out that Romo’s focus on Josh Allen felt excessive, even in moments when the Bills quarterback had only taken minor hits. “Based on Romo’s commentary, you’d think the quarterback deserves a Purple Heart,” read one satirical remark that circulated widely among irritated viewers, mocking what they saw as an over-the-top portrayal of Allen as a battle-hardened warrior.

On X, media personalities such as Zach Gelb described Romo’s performance as “a brutal listen right now,” while others openly called on CBS to remove the analyst from future broadcasts, labeling his commentary as “mute worthy.”

This controversy fits into a broader pattern. In previous seasons, Romo has faced similar criticism for what many fans consider repetitive commentary and favoritism toward star quarterbacks like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes-an ongoing issue that continues to divide the NFL fan base.

While a segment of the audience still appreciates Romo’s enthusiasm and football knowledge, the Bills-Jaguars playoff game made one thing clear: for a significant portion of viewers, objectivity remains non-negotiable in a national NFL broadcast.
