Tom Brady gets the last laugh as Raiders win in Foxborough: Patriots stunned

They say revenge is best served cold, and if you don’t believe that, just ask Tom Brady. The seven-time Super Bowl winner returned to his old stomping grounds, Gillette Stadium, now as owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, to secure a valuable victory in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season at the expense of his former team, the New England Patriots.

Brady spent 20 seasons in New England, winning six Super Bowls, three regular-season MVPs, and four Super Bowl MVPs. He left the organization in 2019 amid reported friction with head coach Bill Belichick, later joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

After retiring in 2022-adding yet another Super Bowl title, another regular-season MVP, and another Super Bowl MVP to his résumé-Brady moved into ownership. In 2024, he became a minority owner of the Raiders, bringing his winning mentality to Las Vegas. And so far, it looks like he’s making an impact.

Brady’s Raiders top the Patriots

The season opener at Gillette Stadium was a close, hard-fought contest between two rebuilding squads. The Raiders struck first with a 26-yard touchdown pass from Geno Smith to Tre Tucker. Patriots quarterback Drake Maye answered quickly with a two-yard touchdown to DeMario Douglas.

New England grabbed a 10-7 lead before halftime thanks to a 35-yard field goal from Andy Borregales. But after the break, the Raiders took control-scoring 13 unanswered points on a three-yard run by Ashton Jeanty and field goals of 51 and 40 yards by Daniel Carlson.

The Patriots cut into the deficit with another Borregales field goal from 44 yards in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough. Las Vegas held on for a 20-13 victory, giving Brady bragging rights over his old team.

What’s next for Brady and the Raiders

The road ahead only gets tougher. In Week 2, the Raiders will host the Los Angeles Chargers before visiting the Washington Commanders in Week 4.

Optimistic projections have Las Vegas finishing around 10-7, but in a division with the Chiefs, Chargers, and Broncos, that may still only be good enough for third place. Still, for Brady, there’s comfort in one thing-he got his revenge against New England.
