Inter Miami made history by winning its first MLS championship. With a resounding 3-1 scoreline, Javier Mascherano’s side were crowned at the Chase Stadium in front of their own fans in a match in which, once again, Leo Messi was the main protagonist.
With an own goal from Edier Ocampo and goals from Rodrigo de Paul and Tadeo Allende, the Herons overcame a Vancouver side that only managed a goal from Ali Ahmed, in a difficult match for Thomas Muller who on this occasion could not contribute with goals or assists for the Whitecaps.

Thomas Müller and Messi had already met on several occasions, the most memorable for Argentines is probably the 2014 World Cup final, which ended with the fourth World Cup championship for the Germans.
Now in a completely different setting, in a lower-ranking match and at a different stage of their careers, Messi managed to beat Muller in a final and in the process give Inter Miami its first league title.

After the match, the German striker shared a video on his social networks thanking the Vancouver supporters and giving his impressions of the match:
It was a tough night… we could have won tonight, we gave it our all, but it wasn’t enough. Congratulations to Miami!
For Müller, the Messi factor was differential, as he made clear in this short but forceful phrase:
Leo Messi gave three assists, and I didn’t give any. He won that duel. He secured the title, there’s no point pretending otherwise.
In addition to the video, Thomas Müller shared a message of thanks to the Whitecaps fans: “What a beautiful journey so far with my team and the Whitecaps family!”
To finish the message, the German captain thanked all the support he received in this, his first season in MLS.

Müller arrived in Vancouver in the summer transfer window and his impact on the Canadian side was immediate. He quickly became the team’s main man, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in the regular season, playing more than 500 minutes. During the playoffs, he only contributed one goal, but was a key player in all the matches.
