This week, LIV Golf gets underway with the LIV Golf Promotions tournament, which gives access to the circuit, less than a month before the league begins its season at the tournament in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, league executives are still working on signing several players.

Journalist Tom Kershaw claims on The Times website that Belgian Thomas Detry (32), winner of the 2025 PGA Tour Phoenix Open, has signed with LIV Golf for the new season to play in the 4 Aces GC team, captained by Dustin Johnson, where he will meet his compatriot Thomas Pieters and Patrick Reed. In turn, this means that Harold Varner III will be transferred to Smash GC, where he is now in charge of Talor Gooch, in order to replace Brooks Koepka

Thomas Detry is the first Belgian to win on the PGA Tour and is currently ranked 57th in the world. He is an accomplished player who is going from strength to strength and is currently enjoying the best form of his career. In short, a good signing by LIV. The European finished the 2025 PGA Tour season in 44th place in the FedEx Cup standings and made 19 of 24 cuts.

On the other hand, The Times also reports that Australian Elvis Smylie (ranked 127th) will join the league immediately to join compatriot Cameron Smith’s Ripper GC, replacing Matt Jones. The 23-year-old golfer fits LIV’s policy of signing promising youngsters to break into its circuit, as is already the case with Josele Ballester, David Puig and Tom McKibbin
