Two of these young players have been watched and marked by the fans, but especially by the starters: Spencer Jones and George Lombard Jr., the latter a rising star, who showed his credentials against the Philadelphia Phillies in different positions, although his is that of shortstop
Lombard not only showed his defensive skills, but also made clear his power with the bat, as his recent performance against Zack Wheeler was joined by a couple of impressive home runs against Houston and Pittsburgh, so his selection in the first round of the 2023 draft is more than justified.
George Lombard Jr. is the combination of three stars
It’s no small thing that Yankees captain Aaron Judge has taken notice of Lombard, and for good reason. “The tools are all there,” he told the media covering the Yankees’ training. “I saw him take ground balls at shortstop, and he had a game like Jazz Chisholm Jr., Anthony Volpe and Ben Rice. Lombard was smooth and athletic at third base. I know he’s a shortstop, but seeing him in different positions, I’m excited for the future,” he said enthusiastically.
It is not yet known if Lombard Jr. will be activated this season by the Yankees, but knowing of his existence ignites a glimmer of hope in a team that needs more good news.
