The Yankees are not favorites to win the World Series: This is how the odds are in betting

With the start of the 2025 MLB Playoffs just around the corner, the bookmakers have updated their odds for the World Series title

Although the New York Yankees have shown solid performance in September, they are not among the three teams most favored by bettors. The Philadelphia Phillies, Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Dodgers lead the projections.

Phillies the new favorites

The Philadelphia Phillies have overtaken the Dodgers as the leading candidates to win the World Series. With odds of +425, the Phillies have a 19.05% implied probability of being crowned champions. Their dominance in the National League East and the depth of their roster make them the strongest team in the betting.

Dodgers and Mariners complete the podium

The Dodgers, the defending champions, are second favorites at +500, while the Seattle Mariners are the American League favorites at +550. Both teams have been consistent performers and have experienced rosters to handle the pressure of October.

Yankees in the second group of contenders

The New York Yankees appear at +750, tied with the Milwaukee Brewers. Although they have strengthened their roster with the likes of Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt, and have Aaron Judge at MVP level, the bookmakers still see them as a team with potential, but not as the main favorite.

Other teams in the fight

The Toronto Blue Jays (+950), San Diego Padres (+1500), Chicago Cubs (+1500), Boston Red Sox (+1800) and Detroit Tigers (+1800) also feature in the list. The breadth of options reflects a season without a “superteam”, where any franchise could surprise in the playoffs.

A more open market than ever

Unlike in previous years, six teams have odds of +800 or better, indicating a more even competition. In 2021, only three teams were in that range. This year, bettors see multiple paths to the championship, and the Yankees will have to prove on the field that they can exceed expectations.
