The sign that indicates Pete Alonso seems to be out of the New York Mets

The future of Pete Alonso remains uncertain, but little by little details are beginning to emerge that could shed light on how the player’s career will continue. The 30-year-old free agent is calmly looking for his next destination and it seems that the Mets will not be in it.

A subtle but significant change on Alonso’s social media has raised alarm bells and speculation about the end of his time with the New York Mets. Alonso, who recently became the franchise’s all-time home run leader, changed his profile picture, removing an image of him in a Mets uniform. This gesture, although not an official confirmation, adds to recent rumors about his future in the industry.

The extensive contract Pete Alonso is looking for

Baseball experts, such as Ken Rosenthal, suggest that the Baseball Operations Presidency, led by David Stearns, has been reluctant to offer Alonso a contract that extends into his age-35 or 36 season, citing concern about investing heavily in a power hitter who is entering an “aging” phase.

Despite this caution, Alonso’s productivity is undeniable, with five consecutive seasons of 37 or more home runs, as well as outstanding durability by playing all 162 games in the last two years.

Alonso is expected to decline his $24 million player option for 2026, seeking to secure a free agency deal that is projected to be around $182 million over six years. If the Mets are not willing to match that value or length, they will be out of the running.

Pete Alonso’s future

With Pete Alonso in free agency, there are many teams that will try to go for him. Despite looking for an extensive contract for about six or seven years, the player has shown great performance in recent seasons and therefore arouses the interest of several franchises.

The Boston Red Sox are emerging as the frontrunner, according to The Athletic’s Jen McCaffrey, with the team planning a “big push” to land the five-time All-Star. Alonso’s addition would transform the Red Sox offense into one of the most dangerous in the league.

On the other hand, there are also the Philadelphia Phillies, who could try to sign Alonso to strengthen their roster. The truth is that there will be several interested parties, but the final decision will be up to Pete Alonso, who still does not have anything clear.
