The Santiago Bernabeu is being shielded for Sunday’s game. The NFL has arrived in Madrid with extremely strict measures that clash with those usually in place at the home of Real Madrid. One of the most striking is that access to the stadium with backpacks is prohibited, only transparent bags will be allowed.
The NFL’s policy requires all bags entering the stadium to be transparent, no larger than 12″x6″x12″ and made of plastic, vinyl or PVC. These are rules that all attendees at the game between the Miami Dolphins and the Washington Commanders must comply with and are in stark contrast to those usually seen at soccer matches held at the Bernabeu.
Weapons, knives, drones, fireworks, illegal substances and any opaque containers, including coolers and briefcases, will not be allowed inside the stadium. Alcoholic beverages are also prohibited (although they will be sold inside), as well as aerosols, unauthorized musical instruments and bulky electronic devices.
The area around the Bernabeu is also being completely cordoned off for the match. Unprecedented access will draw a cordon around the stadium that will prevent entry to people not involved in the event. These measures require work against the clock to comply with them in time for Sunday.
The Madrid Municipal Police has also prepared a special operation with more than 400 officers. In addition, traffic will be affected from 6:00 am on November 15 until 8:00 pm on November 16.
