The reasons why Anthony Rendon will miss the start of the season with the Los Angeles Angels

Time and injuries have no word of honor and for Anthony Rendon his time in MLB is getting shorter and shorter. We are in the days of spring training and recently Perry Minasian, general manager of the Los Angeles Angels confirmed that the third baseman will be out for a significant period.

After undergoing hip surgery, Anthony Rendon has not had the desired rehabilitation, so dreaming of signing a lucrative extension becomes less likely. He has spent more time on the injured list than on the field and his contract has one year remaining when seven seasons ago he signed it for $245 million.

In the past five years, Rendon has appeared in 257 games with the Angels, where in 2021 he had a maximum of 58 appearances, meaning he has missed 68.3% of the games with the California team. Even in the batter’s box, he has recorded very low numbers: .218 batting average, .307 on-base percentage with no home runs and only 14 runs batted in.

What was Anthony Rendon’s injury period like?

He was on the injured list three times last season.

  • He was first sidelined in April with a left hamstring strain.
  • In July, he struggled with inflammation in his lower back.
  • The 2024 campaign ended early due to a left oblique strain suffered in September.

Injuries can lead to desperation and with it somewhat out-of-place statements where he openly admitted that baseball is not his priority. It was an unfortunate statement when the sport pays him $38 million a year and he is rarely around to do his job.

“It’s never been a priority for me. This is a job. I do this to make a living. My faith, my family come before this job. So if those things come first, I’m out of here,” said the American baseball player, who could be in his last months with the Los Angeles Dodgers and in Major League Baseball.
