The reason why CeeDee Lamb was benched at the start of the game against the Raiders is revealed, and it’s not very pleasant

Dallas Cowboys star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was benched for the opening drive against the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday Night Football, prompting speculation about the reason behind the decision.

Lamb, along with fellow wideout George Pickens, did not participate in the initial series of the game, which the Cowboys ultimately won 33-16 on the road.

Head coach Brian Schottenheimer and Lamb both declined to provide detailed explanations for the benching following the victory. According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Schottenheimer commented:

“There were some things that were missed, so had a conversation with those guys and that was easy.”

Despite the early absence, both Lamb and Pickens went on to make significant contributions for the Cowboys. The two receivers combined for 14 receptions and 210 yards, each scoring a touchdown.

Their performance underscored their importance to Dallas‘ offense and mitigated concerns raised by the benching at the start of the game.

Speculation surrounding Lamb’s absence

Although no official reason for Lamb‘s benching has been confirmed, rumors circulated suggesting that the receiver may have been involved in off-field activities in Las Vegas prior to the game.

Reports indicate that Lamb was allegedly spotted at the Red Rock Casino early Monday morning, around 7:30 a.m., engaging in behavior that raised questions about his readiness for the game.

The timing of the alleged incident has fueled speculation that it may have influenced Schottenheimer‘s decision to hold Lamb out of the opening drive. While the Cowboys have not confirmed these reports, they have emphasized that conversations with players about missed responsibilities are part of standard team management.

Lamb‘s professionalism and talent were evident once he returned to the field. Analysts noted that, despite the opening-drive benching, his overall performance remained critical to the Cowboys‘ offensive success.

His ability to contribute significantly following the early absence highlights both his resilience and value to the team.

Schottenheimer‘s comments suggest a focus on accountability rather than public explanation, reflecting a broader strategy of addressing issues internally. The coach‘s approach appears to prioritize corrective discussion and immediate performance over media disclosure.

The situation has sparked discussion among fans and analysts about player behavior and preparation in high-profile games. While speculation persists regarding Lamb‘s early-morning activities, the lack of confirmation from team officials maintains the uncertainty surrounding the true cause of the benching.

Moving forward, the Cowboys will aim to maintain focus and consistency from all starters, particularly key offensive contributors such as Lamb and Pickens.

The team’s performance against the Raiders, with a 33-16 victory, indicates the capacity to overcome minor disruptions while still executing a winning game plan.

As the season progresses, attention will remain on player accountability and readiness for each game. Lamb‘s benching, though brief and followed by a strong on-field performance, serves as a reminder of the balance between professional conduct and athletic contribution at the NFL level.
