The Baltimore Ravens are officially turning the page of the last season and focusing on the next one. After a year where franchise missed the playoffs with an 8-9 record, the organization is entirely focused on its future.
On Friday, the Ravens announced the hiring of Declan Doyle as their new offensive coordinator, tasking Doyle with pne particular mission: building a competitive offense around Lamar Jackson.
Doyle, who worked as an offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears last season, steps into a environment in Baltimore. He steps in replacing Todd Monken, who departed earlier this week to become the head coach of the rival Cleveland Browns. For Jackson and the Ravens, Doyle’s arrival represents a fundamental shift in their playing-philosophy.
Shaping the offense round Jackson
In an era where many coaches force players into specific systems, Declan Doyle will bring a different approach. Speaking on Ari Meirov’s NFL Spotlight podcast, Doyle outlined his strategy, being one that prioritizes Jackson’s capabilities before other things.
“You try to shape the offense around the player. We try to really give him a lot initially to see what he can handle, and from there it’s our job to shape it so he has success
Doyle plans to utilize his experience from Chicago, where he helped Caleb Williams earn a Year 2 breakout by tailoring the system to Williams’ specific arm talent and mobility.
A needed reset
The 2025 as a year was a test of resilience for Lamar Jackson. Despite his massive $260 million contract and elite performances, his injuries affected his consistency. Jackson missed four games due to a combination of hamstring and back issues, finishing the year with 2,549 passing yards and 21 touchdowns.
Perhaps most concerning was the gap between stats. Jackson recorded in 2025 a career-low 349 rushing yards. Doyle’s hire is seen as a direct response to this decline, aiming to give a new image to Jackson’s ground game while providing more support to stars like Mark Andrews and Zay Flowers.
