After six years with the New York Giants, Daniel Jones was cut during the previous season, following two disastrous years for him and, especially, for the team. Thus, the era of the Duke alum ended with only one good season: 2022, when they reached the playoffs and, in the wildcard round, defeated the Minnesota Vikings.
After that 2022 season, Daniel Jones secured a four-year, $160 million contract extension with the Giants; however, it did not work out for the team. The quarterback, for one reason or another, did not play well and also suffered a torn ACL in 2023. There is much debate about Jones: whether the franchise failed him or he wasn’t up to the challenge.
Now, Daniel Jones made his debut as the starting quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts after winning the starting role over Anthony Richardson, and he performed impressively, scoring three total touchdowns against the Miami Dolphins. He played well, although the season is long.
The Colts increased their playoff chances
After it was announced that Daniel Jones would be the starter for the Indianapolis Colts, many social media users said the team had given up and the season was a lost cause. The goal had been to draft Arch Manning in 2026, but it seems the narrative has changed, and fans are starting to commit to their quarterback.
Before the season began, according to ESPN, the Indianapolis Colts had a 34% chance of making the playoffs; after the victory, that percentage rose to 60%. That win over the Miami Dolphins has boosted the Colts, especially in confidence.
The favorite in the AFC South division is the Houston Texans, but the Indianapolis Colts appear to have sent a message. Next Sunday, they will host a strong defense from contenders, the Denver Broncos, and if they win, the Colts could significantly improve their chances this season.
