The Houston Texans have shown that they are a serious team. They have defeated two of the league’s and the AFC’s most powerful franchises. Before the matchup, at least the first one, against the Bills, they were not favored; after that, things were very different.
Josh Allen continues to have difficult nights after the disastrous performance of his offensive line against the Texans in Week 12, where they were defeated 23-19. But that is not where the problem lies; it is in what they did to the Bills quarterback.
Allen suffered the worst beating of his professional life in that game. The Texans’ front annihilated him with eight sacks. It looked as though there was no offensive line protecting him. They hit him with everything they had.
Despite it all, the Buffalo signal-caller kept his team in the fight, but they could no longer mount a comeback to overturn the score.
Patrick Mahomes lived a similar story against the Texans
Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs no longer had room for error in the remainder of the season if they wanted to stay in the race for the AFC West title. However, they faced an opponent that was extremely tough to crack.
The Houston Texans were hunting for another powerful victim, and they got it. Once again, the Texans’ front was a dominant force in the game, making life impossible for the Chiefs’ quarterback.
Mahomes had 14 completed passes on 33 attempts for 160 yards, a 42.4 completion percentage, zero touchdowns, and a QBR of 19.7. It was the worst performance in league history for the Kansas City superstar.
He was sacked only twice, but they made his existence miserable.
The numbers that bury the star status of Mahomes and Allen
Against the powerful Houston Texans defense, neither Josh Allen nor Patrick Mahomes could do anything. They looked like ordinary quarterbacks. Together, against the Texans, they managed only these poor numbers:
- 38/67
- 413 passing yards
- 0 TDs
- 5 INTs
- 44.0 passer rating
This only shows that they are building a powerful juggernaut in Houston that will surely take them to the postseason, and once there, watch out for them.
